Truck camper cons

Hello! I noticed in Van Life Academy that it says one of the cons of a truck camper is

“You won’t get away with parking and sleeping in non-prohibited areas.”

What does this mean exactly?

Interesting question… Probably meant prohibited instead of non-prohibited.

Thanks, is that because it’s just more obvious that someone could be sleeping in a truck camper than a van? And lots of places don’t let people sleep in their vehicles? Is this pretty common?
Thank you!

Greetings!

There are many different restrictions depending on location. Among them are no sleeping in vehicles, no RV parking, no camping, and height, width, length, or weight of vehicles, and very commonly no commercial vehicle parking.

Whether or not they’re enforced, is a whole different matter.

Cheers!

I agree with the restrictions on parking. Some other things that would keep me from going into a truck camper is limited space compared to a van, climbing into a truck camper, climbing up into the bunk and on top of that, truck campers can be top heavy and hard to control in high winds. My parents had a truck camper because they thought it would be a great way to take long road trips and they ended up hating it.
