Hi,
I recently bought a Dethleffs Ford Globevan.
The manufacturer sells a roof rack on the pop up roof kit that can be mounted on the pop up roof. To do that I have to drill and mount 2 rails first. The roof rack that I got is a Thule and when I contacted Thule they said they do not guarantee that a roof rack can be mounted on a van with a pop up roof at all. Has anyone done it? Someone how did this on California/Campster or other small van?
I will attach some pictures of the kit I got, of the car.
Thanks in advance
Pop up tops are usually fiberglass.
I’ve seen people attach solar panels or roof racks to them. I’m not convinced it’s a good idea, but with proper bracing both above and below, to spread out the weight of the load, it should be possible.
I would not screw it down though. The fiberglass itself is not strong enough. You need either wood or metal both above & below, sandwiching the fiberglass between them and acting as a load spreader.
