Greetings!
Money can make all the difference in everybody’s life, traveler or not. What most people don’t realize is just how easy it is to become financially stable. Our schools have failed us, and our parents were never taught either, so they can’t pass on the necessary knowledge to us.
Today, we are blessed with cell phones, computers, and the internet, things that weren’t available for the first half of my life. Today, my family consists of three of us, living & traveling together. Each of us running our own online businesses from the comfort of our motohome, while traveling the country. We are a family by choice, not blood or marriage.
Originally, for about 30 years, I worked for one of many traveling construction companies, helping to rebuild after natural disasters. When work was slow, I would supplement my income through day labor. While most of the crew lived in motels, I always lived in either a motorhome or a camper van, to keep my costs down, and have my own home on wheels. Instead of always eating out, I could cook my own meals when I preferred to do so, and I could make my home as comfortable as liked.
After about 30 years, my body was done, so I had to give up the job I loved, and the job family that I had traveled with for so long. Life suddenly became pretty lonely. Money wasn’t really an issue, walk in day labor wherever I chose to roam, always had jobs, but my job family was gone.
I was living in a camper van at that time, camping free by a lake. Another guy in a camper van asked if he could join me, and I agreed. He was headed to a van rally, and invited me to come too. To my surprise, there must have been 100 vans & motorhomes there. There were workshops, seminars, everybody helping each other with upgrades & repairs, and a camp wide swap meet. It was a slice of heaven on earth.
While there I had the opportunity to attend the many workshops & seminars. Most were free, but the one that attracted me was about making money. It cost $100, but came with a money back guarantee if not satisfied. I learned more in that afternoon, than I had in my entire life. I learned how to make money both online & off. Dozens of ways, with little to no startup costs, and the possibility to make more money than I’d ever dreamt possible. That class was the missing link in my education. Suddenly, 30 years worth of hard won degrees, were proved nearly worthless. Any dummy or dropout, could make more money than the doctors, lawyers, or executives. The minimum wage jobs are filled with people with expensive degrees, because they were never taught how to make money, only how to fill a role.
Sure there are high paying jobs available, but for every single jobs, there’s thousands of people hoping to get it. The odds against you are staggering, and you’re still disposable as far as big business is concerned. If you’re going to gamble, the odds are better if you gamble on yourself.
For fast money, nothing beats walk in day labor, with it’s same day pay. It’s available in most cities. Also available is the unofficial, undocumented day labor market. A street corner or parking lot, where undocumented workers gather for under the table jobs. A simple “Job Needed” sign on a busy street can work wonders too.
While there are remote online jobs available, owning your own business is where the money really is. Online or off, the possibilities are nearly endless. Find a need and fill it, it really is as simple as that. You don’t have to reinvent the wheel, or build a better mouse trap. What’s readily available 50 miles away, could be huge money maker where you’re at. Even things from the other side of the city, or a different neighborhood.
Basically we have 2 categories to deal with, goods or services. I try to avoid goods that require shipping, unless maybe you’re dealing with a drop shipper. In general, I don’t want to store goods, or have to ship them. Digital goods are good though.
If people from 3rd world countries can make thousands of US dollars a day online legitimately, any of us can do it too. So, how do they do it??? They sell digital goods, or remote services. So that’s what the three of us do. I do remote computer tuneups, one makes websites, and one sells ebooks. We each make $1k+ a day working just a few hours per day. By lunch, the rest of our days are free time. There’s tons of other people doing these exact things, yet we have to turn away more business than we than we wish to handle. Some people sell hosting, or do website maintenance or repair too.
Websites can be a gold mine too. Job boards, housing boards, classifieds sites, etc. Then there are also reseller type sites, vacation services, advertising sales, and many more, where the actual goods or services are outsourced. Forget stuff like adsense or amazon, and go for the bigger money. If I can’t make at least $100/hr online, I’m switching to something better.
Offline, home and auto services are always in high demand, and so are handyman and mobile mechanic services. One friend makes a fortune doing solar panel trouble shooting. They’re constantly malfunctioning or under performing. He charges $100/hr, works 10+ hours a day, and still can’t keep up with demand.
Anything that can save somebody time, money, or stress can make you good money, and a cheap ad on Craigslist or similar can get you all the business you can handle.
You can also start businesses that employ others, and just make money as the business owner, without actually doing any of the work yourself. Many people do this too.
Steer clear of ride share or delivery apps that require you to use your own vehicle. Most apps wind up chump change if you consider time, effort, & expenses.
Give a shout if you need more specifics.
Cheers!
