Let me Introduce Myself

Hello Everyone, I am Hal. I live in Fort Collins, Colorado and work from home and like to convert a van and be able to tour the country with my dog, work, mountain bike, and hike. My thought is to buy a used Dodge Promaster 2500 Sprinter and convert myself with a kit and possible DIY. My goal is to do this part time and work my way up to possibly full time so I can rent my house. I hope to get tips and pointers and share my experience in the future.

Welcome!

I’m no longer a huge fan of DIY… Today, I think that cheap older motorhomes from the mid 1970’s are the best choice. They were built when quality still meant something, and they can still be found in excellent shape with low miles on them.

The extra width, without adding extra length, can make a huge difference, and if you find one with a good floor plan, it can save you a ton of money & frustration, and be move in ready. Then the money you save can be spent to enjoy your adventure even more.

I’ve done a lot of DIY, from cheap to extremely expensive, but for many it was like a never ending project. Something could always be done better, or replaced with something more convenient or reliable. When I was younger, it gave me something to do in my spare time. Looking back, it was a huge waste of money, money that could have been better spent elsewhere.

We can’t make them perfect, because our wants & needs change constantly. Most people seem to be on their 3rd or 4th build and counting. This is where factory campers shine, they already have any amenity we really need, with no extra time or money required.
