Introduction. Alternator question

Hi. Just joined the forum.
Started my first van conversion summer 2024 - Vauxhall, mid height, LWB. Went for a few short trips end of summer - even though much work left to do! Loved it :slightly_smiling_face: Much more work done since, and hope to have completely finished by April 2025. I look forward to collaborating with other members, and hopefully can contribute something positive following my experience!

Forgot question…….

My van has a non-smart Alternator (Movano 2024). I’m installing a Sealed deep cycle lead/acid 130 Ah leisure battery. Charging will be via van alternator when engine running (via a Durite split relay), and when not, thru a shore connection and a 12v 10amp Durite charger. My question is……… can the alternator over-charge the leisure battery?

Welcome!

If you hook up the relay to the starter battery, rather than to the alternator, it should work perfectly.

Sure. I intend to do that - didn’t explain myself v well.

My worry relates to the potential overcharging of my leisure battery whilst driving - driving will mean that the split charge relay will kick in, to trickle charge the LB, as well as the SB. I was concerned that the LB could over-charge in this scenario.

No worries, the regulator for the starter battery will prevent that.

Many thanks for your help. :+1::slightly_smiling_face::pray:
