Hey everyone,
So, I’m pretty new to the RV lifestyle – just got my little rig this past spring and been trying to get out whenever I can. I was camping solo in Zion last September (which, by the way, was incredible!) and got chatting with this woman at the next site. She’d been RVing for ages, and we were just sharing camp stories.
Anyway, she told me something that’s really stuck with me, and I’m wondering if anyone else has ever heard anything like it?
She said years ago, she and her husband, Mark, were in Yosemite. They were in a pretty secluded loop, but still in a designated campground. There was a couple in a big, fancy fifth-wheel across from them, and then, further down, almost hidden by the trees, was this old, smaller, black RV. She could barely make it out, just a dark, squat shape in the distance.
They’d had a quiet day, and were settling in for the night when she heard it – probably around 2 or 3 AM. Not a shout, or an animal sound, but a scream. She described it as pure, unadulterated terror – high-pitched, drawn out, and it just hung in the air. And it came from the direction of that old black RV. She told me she and Mark just froze in their tent, too scared to even peek outside. They just lay there, hearts pounding.
The next morning, they finally got the nerve to check on the couple in the fifth-wheel. But the couple was gone, though their fancy fifth-wheel and everything else was left behind. Chairs around the fire pit, a cooler, even their coffee pot on the stove – it was like they just vanished mid-breakfast.
And get this – that old black RV? It was gone too.
She said she and Mark were so spooked they packed up and left that morning, even though they had another night booked. On their way out, they tried to tell a ranger what they heard and saw, but the ranger apparently just looked at them blankly and said there was was no record of a black RV being in that loop at all.
It’s such a wild story, and it’s got me wondering if this is some kind of urban legend that floats around national parks, or if anyone here has ever heard a similar account? So crazy! Im hoping she made it up but i hear things like that happens .
They probably got robbed in the middle of the night, or at least found someone else in their RV.
BLM land can be extremely dangerous, and the more remote it is, the more dangerous it is. I quit doing BLM land unless I was with a large group. Been robbed myself, and too many horror stories. More than one ranger warned me of the dangers, AFTER IT HAPPENED…
In my case it was armed gangs. Once, I noticed a drone late afternoon, and they came that night in the middle of the night. Other times they just show up, even in broad daylight. Maybe in SUV’s, once on multiple ATV’s. I’ve always been too outnumbered to stand a chance. They also like to block you in to prevent escape.
Street camping in cities has been safer for me.
Thanks wasnt sure if this was just a one time thing or if she had made it up
Missing camper stories are a dime a dozen online, it’s classic creepy pasta material.
The true ones tend to make the headlines, especially if it involves rich people in fancy RV. They make national headlines.
