Gonna take myself a permanent vacation!

Hi everyone…my name is Valerie and I am new to the forum. I just purchased a 2022 Ford Transit 350 AWD four days ago, and am planning to start building it out as soon as possible. I haven’t decided yet whether I will attempt the build on my own, or if I will have it professionally done. I am a few years away from retirement, so I wanted to give myself some time to get it completed and ready to become my full-time retirement home the day I turn 65. Looking forward to interacting with and learning from everyone on the forum!

Greetings & Welcome!

Sounds like a plan.

I’ve tried it a few times, but always wind up going back to work and doing a lot of volunteering. I guess I’m just not the type that can sit around and do nothing. I traveled with work my whole life, so I’ve already been everywhere, and you can only spend so much time with friends…

Now I have a couple of traveling companions to show the country to, but I still find myself working when I have nothing better to do. Such is my life I guess, but I’m not complaining, I’m still enjoying my life to the fullest at 76 years old. I work for myself, from the comfort of my home on wheels, when and where I want to, so it isn’t all bad.

Cheers!

Welcome Valerie! We just finished building out our van and are taking off in a few weeks(!) Our original idea was to build it out slowly and wait until retirement age but having the van in the driveway changed all that and we got too impatient. We decided to just go ahead and do it! Dan can work remotely, and I (Perri) left teaching this year 5 years before “retirement”. Maybe not a prudent plan, but life is short and once the van showed up, we just had to go…

Thanks for the warm welcome Van Dweller! Sounds like you have it figured out…and as long as it works for you, that is all that matters. I may end up feeling the need to go back to work at some point after I retire, but it’s hard to imagine right now. There are so many places I want to go and things I want to do (I’m a hiker, so lots of trails are calling my name). And this working thing has been interfering with those quests for a while now.

Cheers to you as well and enjoy living the dream!

Thank you for the welcome Perridox! I completely understanding the impatience. I am looking out my patio door onto my van as I type, and I am so tempted to do the same. However, I have not yet figured out a remote work situation, but who knows…maybe that will happen soon.

I wish you all the joys and luck possible on your journey.

Thanks, Valerie! I totally get that-- somedays that work to live situation feels like such a trap. But it is unavoidable. I’ll have to figure some sort of work situation too, but have a little time to work that out. Looking forward to hearing more about your build!
