Hey guys, looking for some advice on what van to buy. My parents are planning to do some cross country van trips, plus some shorter trips to the Oregon coast. They’ve done some trips out of their Previa, and have loved it, so they’re converting it to be a full time, incognito, camp vehicle. My sister and I want to join them on some of their trips, so we need a rig to sleep in. I’m planning to buy a van to convert into a camp vehicle. I’m a manual transmission diehard, so that pretty much leaves me with 3 vans as options… Previa, Vanagon, and Eurovan. The Eurovans seem like the cheapest option, plus they’re the biggest. I’m guessing they probably are the safest, crash wise. How is there reliability? The Previas seem the hardest to track down. They look a little nicer than the Eurovans imho, and I’m guessing are probably a little more reliable, and probably get the best fuel economy. They are also the smallest though. The Vanagons are definitely the coolest looking. They probably are the least safe though, and dont seem to do as well on gas as the other 2 options from my research. Any thoughts on these assumptions? Am I right on them, or am I assuming incorrectly on any of these points? Any pros or cons that any of you know of with any of these vans? Which van would you look for most out of these options? Any others I should be looking at?
Thanks in advance! Really looking forward to hearing some advice, cause I’m really excited to go buy a van, but just not sure which one to buy… Oh, and I’d say I’m pretty mechanically inclined, but I’ve never owned anything but American and Japanese… A little scared of the fact that 2 of the options are German vans, but I always have kinda wanted to own something German.
