Adapter to charge Jackery @ Campground

Hello, hope you are all doing well. Quick intro - I’ve had many “official” RVs over the years but got sooo tired of leaks, things breaking, cheaply made components, etc. (even with brand new RVs) so I decided to just “Make” my own RV the way I want from a new Ford Transit mid-roof, 148 WB empty cargo van and I couldn’t be happier with the way it turned out. I LOVE everything about my build. I also use it as my daily driver which is working out great.

Anyway on to my question- my van has no electrical set up (intentional to keep it simple which was my goal). I just use my Jackery 1000 Explorer for anything I need which is mostly to run my cooler style fridge (has wheels), charge phones and small things like that. So far I have only camped at State parks for max of 2 nights so I didn’t need to re-charge the Jackery (which charges by solar, 12V or into a regular AC household outlet). I’m not well versed on electrical stuff because previously I just plugged my RVs into the 30 amp outlet on my sites. From what I can see, it looks like I need to use a 20 amp male to 15 amp female adapter (dogbone? or other type?) when I need to re-charge the Jackery at my site OR can I just plug it into the 20 amp outlet at the site (which will have the 2 vertical prongs one of which has the “T” but my Jackery AC cord will obviously fit). Thanks very much in advance.

Campground outlets usually come in 2 varieties, 30a & 50a. The plugs are different.

My solution is I have 2 small adapters, one for each, with no cord attached to them.

So it sounds like you have just the small adapters (that I see online) not the whole dogbone type adapter with the short cord, etc. I’m waiting for Jackery to reply to me as well. I really like my portable power station and I don’t want to mess it up. Thank you very much.

Correct, I prefer the smaller ones, easier to store… Get them in bright colors though so they’re easier to spot when looking for them.

One more question please - I’m not easily finding a 20 amp male to 15 amp female adapter but see many 30 amp male to 15 amp female. Probably a silly question but it is ok to get the 30 amp to 15 amp adapter which I would obviously plug into the 30 amp at the electric hookup on the site correct?

It is amazing how I can do really complex legal & other stuff at work and I have done all kinds of renovations and cool stuff at my house (plumbing doesn’t scare me LOL) but I know so little about electrical. Over the winter I’m going to have to I take some basic electrical class because it is bothering me so much now (and in the past) to be so uninformed about even basic electrical workings.

Thanks again, Beth

You can get a 30a → 20a adapter, but in all honesty, I’ve never owned anything that required a 20a outlet.

OK thank you. I am not hooking my van up to anything I am only looking to re-charge my Jackery portable power station by itself (with the AC power cord that came with it - normally only do this in my house) directly to the hookup at my site when it runs low.
