Greetings!
Starting to look good. I’d try to get an OEM original thick felt pad for the floor & wheel wells out of a similar length passenger van at a wrecking yard. Far superior to any DIY approach.
Cheers!
This van didnt have a OEM orignal felt pad. It has xps foam for the floor. @Van_Dweller I really dont wana get away from OEM like you where saying before.
Greetings!
It also wasn’t original before. It was converted by a 3rd party. The felt pad will give you about 5x the insulation and sound deadening qualities in a fraction of the space of XPS.
In the end, it’s up to you, I can only offer suggestions…
Cheers!
Ypu literaly say OEM felt pad and then say it wasnt OEM ? Which is it ? Can you ecplain the science behind it? You started this posting buy telling me to keep it OEM as possible. Now your saying add a felt layer ( no thickness or napp rating) and recommending that over OEM … ? Sorry but your sending some really confusing messages.
Greetings!
Okay, let’s see if I can explain this better… Your van came from the factory as a cargo van, bare metal interior, then Coachmen converted it into a camper, and possibly even someone else later remodeled it.
The OEM mats I’m talking about only came in passenger vans, not in cargo vans. They are fire proof, and the best insulation and sound deadening that money can buy, and from a wrecking yard would be cheaper than doing it yourself and would already be cut to fit.
What I’m suggesting is exactly what I did for my van that was stripped to bare metal inside when I bought it. The result is an extremely quiet ride, and my floor is never cold in the winter or hot in the summer. I have been VERY pleased with it for over 10 years now.
Previously when I converted a cargo van into a camper, much like you’re suggesting, it was a very noisy drive, and the floor was always scorching hot in the summer and like ice in the winter.
Cheers!
Hey everyone ! Finally getting our windows back in our van ! We finally got all our insulating done ! My son , Finn helping me put it back ! Much luv and happy travels !
Hey everyone havnt updated in a while , but wanted to share our progress!
Built a slide out kitchen for our gas stove where our old fridge vent used to be. Also added a window where the fridge was aswell. Then build some cabinets over our new bed frame…! Yay! Also got our seats / couch recovered with marine grade vinyl.
Greetings!
I’ve always found some of those slide out kitchens both interesting and intriguing.
Cheers!
