Webasto or Espar heater options for gas vehicle

I have the B4 with high altitude kit. Sorry can’t recall exactly but remember it being around $1100 + instal.

Hi!
I’m also want to buy a kerosene heater. Can you tell me please which company did you buy a heater?

Or somebody else can give advice about it…

Greetings!

I’ve actually never bought one new. I have found them at garage sales, thrift stores, flea markets, or via online classified ads or Ebay.

For most people, the 8-10k BTU models will be sufficient. I do extreme winters down to -60°f, so I have a 23k BTU one myself, but that is overkill for most people.

The Kerosun Moonlighter series are nice, because they have glass in them so you can see the flame, so it’s kind of like having your own private campfire or fireplace inside your van.

Cheers!

I saw a similar model that you are talking about - the Dura Heat DH2304S, just as I read reviews on heaters.
I’ve already wanted to order a heater on Amazon, but your idea is to buy in garage sales, thrift stores, flea markets I like more, thanks! I’ll find this place in our town

Greetings!

One of my hobbies is saving money, and I’ve picked up a lot heaters for ~$10 to pass on to others in need. Anything I’d find useful for #vanlife, I pick up if the price is right, and if it’s better than what I already have, I keep it and pass on what I’ve been using. Helping myself, while helping others. For me, it’s great cheap entertainment. Sometimes I even make money at it.

Cheers!

I’m also puzzled by this question, because my van is cold right now. Your options are really interesting and I even considered kerosene heaters. I’m only confused by one question: how safe will they be and it’s not easier to buy a portable generator and heater on electricity?

Greetings!

I opt for kerosene instead of propane for both safety and cost reasons. I have carbon monoxide sensors, and even with my van completely closed up, I can run my heater inside with no cm buildup. With my kerosene heater though, even in arctic temperatures, you need to keep ventilation open or you’d roast to death. The ventilation is what regulates the indoor temps.

While it is entirely possible to use a generator and an electric heater, it does present other problems. The generator must be outside, and that can create theft problems, and they can be noisy, especially at night. A 1500 watt electric heater is only a little over 5k BTU’s too. In comparison, my kerosene heater is 23k BTU.

The bottom line is you need ventilation to combat moisture problems, and you need enough heat to keep you comfortable in spite of the needed ventilation. The kerosene heat is also a nice dry heat, unlike unvented propane.

Cheers!
