Best portable power station to power my new tiny home on wheels

Greetings!

Hopefully you’ll be one of the few that gets lucky, and not learn to hate solar like so many others have.

99%+ of the time my isolator is all I ever need, but I do have a generator for a backup. I wasted big money on numerous solar systems, none of which worked as advertised, so I went to school to become a solar tech, determined to build a system that actually worked. The more I learned, the stupider the whole idea became.

As a certified tech, I offered my services in solar troubleshooting. An ad on Craigslist would swamp me with business. I made some good money, but continually telling people they needed to throw good money after bad gets to me. I’m quitting that business as soon as I get the last ~40 people taken care of.

There’s just no getting around the fact that relying on the weather for power is risky at best, and most of the controllers, regardless of their price, brand, claims, or what their displays show, kill batteries of any kind prematurely with their improper charging algorithms.

If I were you, I’d make sure to top up my batteries at least once a week via an isolator, generator, or shore power to help preserve their longevity. Many people towing trailers will run an extension cord from an inverter in the tow vehicle to a battery charger in the trailer. (AC will travel the distance with less loss than DC)

Cheers!
